The oldest known literary hero, from the Epic of Gilgamesh (2100 BC). Two-thirds god, one-third human. His quest for immortality after the death of his friend Enkidu is the central story. The flood narrative predates the Biblical version. Ruled Uruk in what is now Iraq.
